History of the World, Part I
The time is in the heart of the Age of Valyria, roughly 700 years before the Targaryen conquest of Westeros.
The only type of magic that you know to exist is Fire / Blood / Destruction magic. This is important to keep in mind because the term MAGIC should represent a destructive force that is rumored only to be known by the Valyrians and it is how they control their dragons. When magic is spoken of, this should bring to mind the Valyrians, their dragons, blood, and destruction. It is something to be feared, and something that is wielded by few in the entire world.
Here are some events that have shaped the world in which we exist:
- Timeline of Major Events
- Anything that happens in 700ca or before is in our world.
The short version:
The Andals have a lot of control over Westeros, which means the Sept (Faith of the Seven Gods) is in full force.
Valyria has dominated Ghiscar and Slaver’s Bay (including almost all of Essos), and as a result, is displacing the Rhoynar people from their homeland.
In Westeros, the Valyrians have no real presence, mostly because they see no real benefit to dealing with Westeros and the skin changers. And yes, The Wall does exist to the far north. More on that WAAAYYY later.
You should look over the events of the past (and the future) to cement where we actually are in the timeline. We are quite far from the structured world we know today.
Beginning Your Journey
You’re all in Valyria and hearing rumors that the Rhoynar are marching south from the central Rhoynar city of Chroyane led by Prince Garin. You hear that he leads a large army that has taken control of a number of cities and that some of their force is derived from “water magic”, though these are all rumors.
Although seemingly unfounded, it has sparked heated, albeit hushed, debates in the streets: some spewing that this is the beginning of the fall of the “so-called Great Valyrians” and others about how the Rhoynar are no match for the all-powerful dragon army.
You hear roars in the distance and look up to see an armada of 200-300 dragons in the sky flying north. As they fly overhead, the sight is equally impressive and terrifying as the daylight is all but blacked out from the ground.
Qarzdaq: Let them have their squabbles… after the strength of dragons and power of water fail them, they’ll realize the true salvation of the Lord of Light
Burton: This unrest has so far served me well! It has aided me in tricking those fools into letting me escape! Yes, interesting times such as these lend themselves to opportunities for profit… And the occasional prank!
Shadowsilver: I’m headed to Valyria to catch a ride on a ship. I don’t care where I’m going, I just need to get far from here.
Our story begins with you already on-board a ship sailing from Valyria to Pentos, for whatever reasons you have...
